![]() ![]() What do they want to be able to do with their dogs? Put clear expectations about what will be expected of them to achieve this result. Start by thinking about what your clients want to get out of the class. Here are some recommendations to help you make it the best experience possible for your students. Unless you’ve observed a mentor or taken a group class yourself (and perhaps even if you have), you may not be aware of some of the critical aspects of a successful dog training group class. When you’re first starting out, some important pieces of a great group class may elude you. As a dog trainer holding group classes, you have the power to reach many more people and you can work to create a real, connected community to help you build a successful, sustainable dog training business. Classes also allow your clients to meet others in their situation which is great when they are struggling and need some encouragement. Group classes help owners receive dog training help at a reduced cost since group classes are typically less expensive than private, one-to-one lessons. More experienced dog trainers hold reactive dog classes or confidence building classes for overly-shy dogs and their clients. Some dog trainers start with basic puppy and obedience classes then progress to group tricks classes or nosework classes. ![]() There are a variety of group classes you could hold. Group classes allow past clients to come back to refresh their skills, new clients to get started in basic dog training, and for private lesson clients to grow their skills and their dog’s skills around more distractions. I was living check to check at jobs all my life and it’s much easier to live check to check if you are passionate about your purpose. We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey. Our training is always fun, simple and educational. I’ve only had a couple of other trainers that have worked with me and now it’s just me and a young trainer that I believe is one of the best trainers around today and together we are still working to build a better, stronger business, so we can help as many dogs as we can. I also control emails, social media and advertising. I get most of my new clients from someone seeing their neighbor walking with a well behaved dog and asking them how their dog is good and happy. My business skyrocketed after that mostly from my reputation of treating every client as a friend. After the workshop I was taken aside and invited to be a volunteer at Cesar’s next workshop. After years of having a growing business, I saved and saved and was able to fly to The Dog Psychology Center and take a workshop with the famous Dog Whisperer, Cesar Millan. Soon I got a couple of 5 star reviews and before I knew it I was so busy that I had to quit my other jobs one by one. The rescue suggested that I consider training so, between my other 3 jobs, I started to train dogs on the side Getting some clients here and there from the suggestions of family and friends was fun and educational. Presented with a list of options, I was lucky enough to find “working with a local dog rescue at adoption events” I was quickly noticed by the rescue of handling some of the hardest dog behavioral issues. Just so happened, due to some unpaid traffic tickets and missed court dates, I found myself in a position needing to do some community service. I spent my early life going from job to job searching for a real meaningful direction. I felt like I have always had a strong connection with dogs. ![]() We were a family of Shetland Sheepdog breeders, dog show handlers and groomers. I’ve always been an animal lover since I was a child. Sadly so many dogs are often given up to shelters or even just dumped by owners just because of a behavioral issue that they don’t realize is a simple fix with just a little bit of training.
